Google CEO Announces the End of Google Labs

Date: 21 Jul 2011

Google CEO Larry Page has been at the helm at G headquarters since April this year, and hasnt been shy about making his mark on the company.

His guiding hand has been felt at Google Labs, with the company announcing its closure.

A post on their blog states:

"In many cases, this will mean ending Labs experiments—in others we’ll incorporate Labs products and technologies into different product areas. And many of the Labs products that are Android apps today will continue to be available on Android Market. We’ll update you on our progress via the Google Labs website."

Nothing more specific at this stage, but a post on SearchEngineland suggests that specific product labs may not be affected by the move, with a Google rep saying:

"There won’t be any immediate changes to in-product experimental channels like Gmail Labs or Maps Labs. We’ll continue to experiment with new features in each of our products, even as we move to retire the Labs name."
