Facebook Privacy Stance Raises EyebrowsDate: 11 Jan 2010 Facebook originator Mark Zuckerberg has sparked controversy with his comments at the San Fransisco Crunchie awards last week - claiming that privacy was no longer a "social norm". With stark changes in Facebook's privacy settings causing outrage among users, their new stance towards user privacy is shown to be coming right from the top. December's change to Facebook user status updates now allows all updates to be visable publicly unless the user chooses to alter their settings and keep them private. In addition, Facebook's recent deals with Google and Microsoft will make user status updates visable in open search results. Zuckerberg commented further at the Crunchie awards, “People have really gotten comfortable not only sharing more information and different kinds, but more openly and with more people.” |
