Chrome Makes Gains in May Browser Usage

Date: 1 Jun 2010

Web analytics firm Net Applications has released their report on browser usage during May 2010 and globally, it looks like Google Chrome is making some small but steady gains with users.

Net Applications has registered a 0.3% increase in Chrome usage worldwide in May, now giving  them a 7.1% market share. It looks like Google picked up what Microsoft lost over that timeframe, with their market share dropping by 0.3% to 59.7% - they still retain their pole position though, with IE still the most used browser worldwide. Following after IE, we see Firefox with 24.4% - dropping 0.2% share since last month. With Chrome in third position now, Safari sits behind them at 4.8% market share, an increase of 0.1% on last month.

The remaining market share was pooled between Opera and a selection of smaller browsers. Microsoft have been actively encouraging users of IE 6 to move across to the new IE 8 platform - this slow, unsecure and unstable version of Internet Explorer has long since past its sell-by date. Microsoft's IE 8 now has 28.9% of the browser market share worldwide.
