Apple CEO Steve Jobs Dies

Date: 5 Oct 2011

It was announced today that co-founder and former CEO of technology giant Apple Steve Jobs, has died following a long battle with cancer.

The world mourns the loss of a true innovator, whose vision and drive brought about a real change in how we all use and perceive technology in our lives.

Jobs retired as CEO of the company back in late August, and a statement from his family confirms that he died peacefully in their presence today.

Tributes for the Apple co-founder have come from far and wide:

President Obama described Jobs as a "visionary" and has stated, "Steve was among the greatest of American innovators - brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it."

Microsoft founder Bill Gates has said, "For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it's been an insanely great honour. I will miss Steve immensely."

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg thanked Jobs for showing him that "what you build can change the world".

Many have flocked to the Apple offices in California, where a small but fittingly simple tribute has been made - "Jobs" spelled out in candles, an iPad with his photo, and the chinese symbol for "Steve" all laid out in front of the building for all to see.
