Pros And Cons Of Popular Search Engine Trends

The search engines constantly make changes on the searches in their aim to provide the most relevant and useful search result to the online users. They continuously think of ways to make searching easy and helpful. Online users have seen how the search engines introduce one search trend after the other. Although the trends may have varying benefits, they all aim for one thing: better search.

Most of the search trends are introduced by the major search engines. Google is the leader of search innovations. It regularly introduces search advancements for the benefit of its users. The search engines may use different search trends but in the end, they all want to provide the best search results they can.

Google’s Universal Search

Google has introduced the universal search as part of its search innovations. What is the benefit of the universal search? With the universal search, all search results – irregardless of the type – will be presented in a singe page result. There is no need to see other pages for other type of results. The search result will have a combination of all types of information related to the keyword entered.

Google’s regular search results separate the results according to their type. There is a result for images, videos, maps, websites and more. The advantage of the universal search is that the searcher will have access to all types of information in just one page. The major drawback of the universal search is that the search result can be too crowded with irrelevant information. If the searcher is looking for images alone, he only wants images in the result.

The Personalised Search Trend

The online users have varying preferences. What seems useful to one user may be irrelevant to the other. This is the reason why the search engines started giving personalised search. With the personalised search, the search results are based on the searcher’s preferences.

The search engines store the data retrieved from the user’s previous searches. This becomes the basis for the search results. When the same user searched on the search engine, the search result presented will be the most relevant for him. The advantage of the personalised search is that the searcher will get the most relevant search result. The disadvantage is the issue of privacy.

The search engines’ “search trends” have both advantages and disadvantages. Although they were devised to make searching better, having downsides can’t be avoided. There are several more search trends but the universal search and the personalised search are two of the most popular trends.
