Blog Comment Spam

The internet is definitely a breeding ground for spam. No wonder even blogs today are haunted by blog comment spam. This is not just a problem with a couple of blogs I know but actually a whole lot of them.

Blogs are expressions of ideas shared by the blogger and the readers. Mainly, the blogger sets the topic and readers can add info or share their thoughts about the topic. Blogs provide useful information about a lot of varied.

Blogs are basically for people who want to share ideas. But what happens now is that there are those who comment on blogs purely for promotional purposes. For instance, there is actually no comment, just a link to a particular website. While some blogs has some rules about links on comments, some allow free commenting. This is what other people abuse.

It is important for blog owners to moderate comments to their blog to ensure that they are relevant to the topic of the post and the overall theme of the site. For instance, if a blog is about web marketing training or discussing the effectiveness of an online tool, you will not want to find a comment with a link to an adult dating site for example.

This would be fine if the person actually did comment about the blog’s topic and then just introduced his own website. But if there is nothing on the comment but just the link, it is not good at all.

The purpose of comment spam is to actually shift your reader’s interest from the blog to their own website, or to artificially inflate search engine rankings. Again, if the website is relevant to your blog’s topic, it would be understandable. But if the site they promote and your website are two very different things, it is another story.

The bottom line here is that you have put a lot of effort in getting blog visitors. It is no joke to market a blog online. There are just so many strategies to employ to have that flood of readers. So whatever threat there is to your traffic, you should deal with it. Don’t let comment spammers just continue with their tricks. You definitely have the right to your hard earned traffic.
